Layla + Matt at Lands’ End
Dr Matt Lodder (Tattoo Art Historian and the Head of American Studies at University of Essex) and I have known each other since the early 2000’s. He once said that he didn’t think he would get married, but if he ever did he would want me as his wedding photographer. Fast-forward twenty years and Matt was in love with Layla, so it was my pleasure to fly back to England to photograph their wedding weekend.
Layla is both an artist and creative director, so I knew we would be in for a visual feast (and an explosion of color!). We spent the afternoon before the wedding putting the final touches to the marquee – hanging the origami decorations.
The day itself was a wonderful celebration of the couple and the love their friends and family have for them ; Wedding Favors designed by their tattoo artists in their social circle through to hand crafted wedding rings made by a jeweler friend.
Having worked for years in live events, I’m used to the unexpected happening, and was ready in place for when they gave me the heads up that they would be using colored smoke as part of the walk down the aisle. Then final images were given a filmic color treatment to fit their retro aesthetic.
